(AOL IM) AOL System Msg is my buddy
EVERY time I log into AOL I get pinged with a new message “Oh who could it be?” I think – is it my friend Paul from New York, perhaps it’s one of the guys from work – probably telling me to get to bed *chuckle* – my excitement soon turns to disgust as it dawns on me it’s my ol’ friend ‘AOL System Message’ gleefully notifying me of how I am logged in in 2 places and would I like to close the other session. I. DON’T. CARE. Please stop telling me about this. There may be some way of turning off this pointless notification in the AOL client but I won’t let any of their bastard software near my machine and neither iChat or Pidgin has a way to shut off this noise.

Good luck turning that off…
I don’t think it’s meant to notify you. Instead, I think it’s meant to keep the same account from signing in twice from different places. In other words, it’s not there to help you, it’s there to help AOL.

but (a) I can log in from 2 different places anyway, and (b) why does it matter if I log in from 2 different places, it’s my life. Pfff AOL

Google chat lets you sign in to an AIM account and send/receive messages to/from AIM users *AND* there is no annoying messages from the AOL System Msg. That’s the only client I’ve found that bans those messages.
I wish AOL would make those messages optional. Everytime I turn on my laptop, my cellphone gets a message from this AOL Sysem Msg buddy. Ugh.
